Lessons In Gospel Psychology

VOLUME 1 - THE OLD TESTAMENT:  GENESIS - NEHEMIAH

This book is the product of my study of the first half of the Old Testament of the Bible. I have entitled the book Lessons in Gospel Psychology because I believe that the value of the scriptures is to teach us how to think and act. Each lesson is based on a specified section of the Bible with a commentary on how it is relevant to us today.  Each lesson closes with a poem.

VOLUME 2 - THE OLD TESTAMENT:  ESTHER - MALACHI

In Volume 1 of Lessons in Gospel Psychology we studied the history of God’s children from Adam and Eve to the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem at the time of Nehemiah.  In Volume 2 we study the words of the prophets sent by Jehovah to guide the children of Israel.  From Isaiah to Ezekiel, Job to Jonah, and Daniel to Malachi we consider how the word of God is relevant in today’s world.

VOLUME 4 - THE BOOK OF MORMON

We are familiar with characters in the Old Testament of the Bible like Adam, Eve, Abraham, King David, Isaiah, and Jeremiah.  We are also familiar with the ministry of Jesus Christ and his Apostles in the New Testament.  But who are Lehi, Nephi, Alma, Helaman, Mormon, and Moroni?  They are characters in the Book of Mormon.  In 600 BC a man named Lehi and his family left the troubled city of Jerusalem and migrated across the Pacific Ocean to the American continent.  They brought with them scriptures written on brass plates.  They practiced the Law of Moses.  They were taught the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Their civilization was destroyed around 400 AD.  The survivors were ancestors of the American Indians.  The record of their experience was buried in upstate New York.  The ancient text was translated by Joseph Smith, Jr.  It was published as the Book of Mormon in 1830.  You will be surprised how relevant the Book of Mormon is to today’s world.  In this volume each lesson begins with a spiritual thought from the Old Testament.  Readings from the Book of Mormon are brought to life in a modern context.  At the end of each lesson is a poem that reflects our efforts to follow the Lord.  The Book of Mormon is more than background information on Inca and Aztec culture.  It is a plain and precious textbook of psychology.

VOLUME 5 - DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS

THE PEARL OF GREAT PRICE

In the course of his role as a prophet of God, Joseph Smith, Jr., recorded 133 revelations received from Jesus Christ.  They included directions on how to organize the church, advice for specific individuals, and inspired declarations.  There were also extracts from translations of the Bible and the Book of Abraham.  Each lesson begins with a spiritual thought from the New Testament.  Readings from Doctrine and Covenants and The Pearl of Great Price are brought to life in a modern context.  This perspective strengthens our ability to resist temptation, make peace with our enemies, and overcome the world.
